Time flies when you're having fun

Old Times

3 years ago, when we parted ways with our bassist and keyboardist, we felt it was time to get back to our roots. We started by experimenting with our old songs to give a chance to our new bandmates to familiarize themselves with the essence of 123Goat's music. It also gave us a opportunity to re-discover and re-arrange some of them.

All for the better

"She's a he", "Backporch Bill", "123Goat" and "Hey" were amongst the first to be reborn. It's when we started to work on "Patrick need's a fix" that we felt we had something special going on here. Not only were we re-learning our songs, we were giving them a face-lift. All for the better. It was also time to shift the composition gear a little bit.

Switching gear

We started to play around with one of our latin-feel type songs "MoƩ j'grouille pus d'icitte". The results were amazing. It's as if we could play it any other way. This is where our vocals began to improve quite a bit as well. A big thanks to Kim here - acting as a sort of harmony glue (not mentionning the infamous cowbell - there's always a place for cowbell, right?). In the mean time, our composing machine guitarist Sam was laying eggs like a fierce chicken and we were hungry for more! He was now blending francophone-based lyrics with our signature progressive funk groove and the results were awesome. It also expanded our horizon, making us the bi-lingual band we always hoped to be. Next thing we knew, we had more than 15 songs ready to go with more on the way.

Why not?

We also started to learn some famous classic rock, progressive or funk songs from bands like Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple and Mr. Bungle, just to name a few. It was a challenge that pushed us to our limits, evolving as individual musicians and as a band. Nothing better like a good ol' ass kicking cover song to learn how to play with each other. So far, we have learned 16 songs and counting and we have over 3 1/2 hours of music in total. Not bad for a little over 2 years!
